The Brass Bass The Brass Bass is a trophy piece and an example of excellence, setting the standard in "Vintage Collectable Sculpture and Assemblage". This work was created in 1998 and has been a favorite of many people. In 1998 The Brass Bass was honored with being chosen to be the postcard announcement of the "Animal Imagery" art show held at the Artful Eye in Healdsburg, California. The Brass Bass has since become one of the most visible works to date by the artist and has shared venues at solo shows and open studio tours. The Brass Bass is an example of the ongoing interest the artist has with sea life and has been on display with other works including the Red Light Lobster, the Sail Fish, The" Sw-ore-d" Fish and a twenty-four foot kinetic wall piece called Ride in the Whale. Made from items of interest, this assembled work has its own aquatic and kinetic features. The "Bait Fish" or "Baby Fish" spins at the nose of The Brass Bass. This tiny fish with thecan opener body and cork screw fin shows some color and is quite luring. Sporting other features such as fishing rigs complete with hooks, line and sinker, The Brass Bass uses flag flying hardware from a boat as a dorsal fin. This assemblage, with floating ribs, and seemingly mechanical contoured body uses props and drivelines for propulsion and bicycle brakes to slow down. Added to the illusion are detailed glass eyes and a toothy jawbone. The Brass Bass also features various chrome kitchen utensils from head to tail including tongs, spatula, forks and spoon fins. This trophy piece rests solidly upon the vintage brass blow torch stand.
