Saw Biscuit (a bust) by Monty Monty
In a tribute to the equestrian tradition, an unknown contender and rarely remembered race horse, "Saw Biscuit" is honored with a one of a kind assemblage sculpture. Truly a purebred apart from all others, Saw Biscuit had no traceable lineage to the legendary Sea Biscuit and for the most part ran largely under the radar of even the most ardent horse race fans. The infamous steed reportedly ran his last race in the late 1920's having competed in the Private Idaho Derby and failed to finish as result of the near fatal combination of having thrown a shoe and old age. Put out to pasture and retired, ol' "Saw Biscuit" lived out his remaining days on a rural Idaho farm near the shuttered saw mill and bakery where he was born.

About the Bust:
The entire sculpture has been created using only nuts and bolts and screws connecting collected and assembled objects that are sculpted into the likeness of the long retired and forgotten race horse, “Saw Biscuit”. Among the many components are the legendary patent pending horse shoe and a vintage wild yarn factory spool. Other tooled items include the ash can shovel and wood carpenters plane, a paint scraper, lawn edger and utility wrench. Wood spoons, salad servers and a single silver serving tray serve their purpose along with multiple wood remnants including wood saw handles, rocking chair rails and curtain rod rings. Dual left and right made in the USA meat grinder handles are also featured. The wild eyes are comprised of vintage light fixtures and a crazy 8 key chain that give his face a focus. Shop brushes with real horse hair make up the horse’s mane and lashes. Other items include a three piece wooden candle holder set, a coat hanger, miniature number 2 billiard ball, and various metal remnants including five “running gears” that help complete “SAW BISCUIT” the Bust!
The bust spins 360 degrees on a rotating base.
Scale: 36" x 24" x 15"
